Taught bicycle mechanics to a wide range of ages singly and in classroom settings. I have also written a bible for a television series on bicycling. The pilot episode script is available online. Taught classes in remedial algebra for adult continuing education college students. Taught basic computer logic principles to a mixed group of young and older college students. Survival instructor for the US Army. Winery tour guide for Columbia Winery. In 1984, while working for Columbia Winery, an accident resulted in the loss of several thousand gallons of wine from a 5000-gallon variable volume tank. Initially the insurance agency refused to pay for the loss. I reviewed the accident and developed a mathematical model showing how the loss occurred. The agency reversed its decision and a check for the loss was received in less than a week. Wrote and illustrated a testing and adjusting procedures manual for composite processing equipment that reduced phone calls to our customer service department by 25%. I had the office next door to our help desk. Over the span of a few weeks, I noticed a pattern in the conversations that I overheard. The manual I wrote was based on those observations and the notes that I had written. Wrote complete document sets for aerospace manufacturing cells including: - Hazard and procedure labels. - Software manual. - Operator's manual. - Maintenance manuals. - Quick reference cards. - Redesign of critical safety equipment that was adopted by the OEM. Produced and directed a 90-minute video on the installation, operation and maintenance of automated aircraft riveting equipment. Taught jet aircraft wing assembly workers the use of new semi-automated production equipment.
	Technical Writing is essentially teaching narrowly defined subjects to specific audiences. Much of what I learned as a tech. writing student at the University of Washington was how to define my students or audience. With a specific audience, the writer (teacher) can design the message so that it will match the education level, temperament and learning style needed for effective communication. I have a wide range of teaching experience in addition to the work I have done in conservation.
